I am in my 70’s and a first time solo cyclist. I was looking for a leisurely ride on Portugal’s Atlantic coast. From start to finish I felt supported by Rooster Bike Tours. In good time before the ride they sent an easy-to-read daily schedule, with thoughtful suggestions about getting to and from the airport and the ferry ride I would need to take, addresses and phone numbers for the interesting guest houses they had booked.  The rental bike was in excellent condition. Rooster was an attentive WhatsApp call away at any moment if I ran into trouble and needed help. My only anxiety was about depending on the offline map app, and I’ve flagged getting an easy to understand video tutorial made for someone clueless like me. Now I know I can do it with Rooster’s help, I’ll do it again.

The Danube Cycle Path was a revelation. I didn’t expect to be so blown away by the mix of landscapes, from lush valleys to medieval towns. The ferry ride across the river was a fun break in the ride!

The Atlantic Coast is stunning, and this tour was well-organized overall. However, the route notes could have included more details about alternative paths for beginners. Some sections near Nazaré and Sintra felt too challenging for my skill level, and I ended up walking a portion. That said, the scenery was worth every step. Rooster Bike Tours provided great support, and the accommodations were lovely. The seafood and warm hospitality of the locals made this trip memorable, even with the slight challenges.

I felt a great sense of accomplishment after this trip. Even though it was rated “gentle,” I had to push my bike up some of the hills! There is definitely a fair amount of mountain biking on this trip. I would recommend renting the mountain e-bike if you are not used to climbing hills. Make sure to request a mirror for safety. I especially loved riding along the Caledonian Canal and stopping to view the sites or chat with hikers. I may search for future “canal rides,” as they seem to be more my speed. The accommodations were comfortable, and the breakfasts were excellent. The guest house hosts and hotel staff were friendly and generous. We had a great time.

Thoroughly enjoyed our tour in the Loire Valley of France booked through ‘Roosters’. We were two couples on an Independent Tour. Our detailed on-line map took us past most of the attractions to see along the way, from Chateaux’s to biking through lovely villages and many other wonderful places to visit. Tom from Roosters was available at all times if we needed assistance in any way. If we head that way again sometime to do another bike ride, I would definitely choose Roosters again. Thanks Tom.

My husband and I completed the 7-Day Self-Guided Danube bike tour in May. We had an incredible time. The folks at Rooster Bike Tours were very receptive to our questions and always got back to us in a timely matter. The material that they provided before our trip was extensive. Not only did we receive excellent navigational instructions but hightlights of places to see along our route as well as restaurant suggestions in each town we stayed. All of our lodgings were spacious (which in Europe is not always the case). The scenery on our route was stunning. Our bikes were in excellent condition too! All in all- I am already looking ahead to other self-guided tours we can take with Rooster in the future!

We had a great time. The route took us along the beautiful coast for several days and inland to Coimbra on the last day. Most days there were places along the route to stop to get a light lunch. Other days we picked up food at the start for a picnic along the way. Baggage pickup/delivery was flawless. Accommodations were convenient and comfortable.

This was a mostly great experience, but I wish the hotels had been more consistent. Most were charming and clean, but one felt quite dated, with an uncomfortable bed that left me sore for the next day’s ride. David from Rooster Bike Tours was understanding when I mentioned it and said they’d look into replacing that accommodation for future tours. Despite that, the Danube Cycle Path was beautiful, and the cycling itself was a joy.

From early planning of our Scottish Highlands self guided tour through return of the bikes on the last day, Rooster Tours was exceptional. The route was very well planned, gpx files were perfect, accommodations were excellent, luggage arrived on time without fail, the bikes worked beautifully and were just right for the terrain, and Tom kept in close contact. This tour was an excellent way to explore Scotland’s Highlands, with highlights like Urquhart, Fort Augustus, and the serene Loch Ness. The bikes were comfortable and well-maintained, and the accommodations were generally good. My only gripe was that some routes felt a little too ambitious our skill level—I wish there had been more information about the difficulty upfront and we would have booked e-bikes instead. Tom was helpful in suggesting ways to pace ourselves, but we still felt a bit overwhelmed at times. Despite a few difficulties, we came away with amazing memories and a deep appreciation for Scotland’s wild beauty.

Probably our most enjoyable bike trip, and we’ve done a few! Good trails, well chosen accommodation, great on line support from our organiser Tom, chateaux, cheese, wine, even sunshine, strongly recommended.

Absolutely killer logistics. We just did a self guided Scottish Highlands tour and it was flawless. One way you can tell they are good is that whenever we showed up somewhere and said we were with Rooster it brought out the big smiles. Communication was excellent with spot-on local knowledge and gentle warnings as events in front of us unfolded. The route took us through a huge unrelated event but we knew what was coming and it only added to the adventure.

As someone who doesn’t even cycle to the shops, I was amazed at how much I enjoyed this trip! The Danube Cycle Path was flat, scenic, and dotted with bakeries where I overindulged. Thanks to the clear maps, I never got lost, even with my questionable sense of direction. Reaching Vienna felt like a real achievement—celebrating with a huge plate of schnitzel was the perfect end.

We had a super time on this trip from 20th May to 24th May with Rooster Bike Tours. Right from the completion of our booking, Tom was always available on WhatApp for queries/clarifications etc – both before we left Ireland and when we were at the Lake. He provided an excellent package of information which included good restaurants from cheaper ones to more premium ones. All the hotels pre-booked were top class. Luggage transferred seamlessly each day. We have hired bikes on many holidays but the bikes we took from Kultur-Radle in Konstanz (as part of our Rooster Bike Tour Booking) were top class with water proof panier bags supplied. We probably should have booked an 8 day trip because we were able for a few more days on the bike but we did rent bikes near the Rhine Falls (on our own bat) after the Rooster tour. All in all, we would highly recommend Rooster Bike Tours for this wonderful holiday – don’t wait! It’s worth every penny! Thank you Tom & all at Rooster. This was the cycling trip of a lifetime! Rooster Bike Tours made everything so easy, from booking to the final ride into Porto. The scenery was stunning, especially the golden beaches and dramatic cliffs along the way. I loved the flexibility of a self-guided tour, with plenty of opportunities to stop and explore. Each accommodation was comfortable, and the fresh seafood was incredible. The highlight was cycling through the eucalyptus forests near Nazaré. I’ll be back for more!

What a journey! The Scottish Highlands are beyond words. I particularly loved the quiet ferry ride to Lismore Island, where I spent an afternoon soaking in the serene landscape. Cycling through Glenfinnan and Fort Augustus felt like stepping into a historical novel. David’s recommendations for local eateries were fantastic—I’m still dreaming about the seafood chowder in Oban.

We had a great time as a family! Unfortunately we had not so great weather to do the activities along the way. The accommodations exceeded our expectations and were wonderful, as were the people who ran them. Easy accessed maps and information made the tour fun!

The Danube Cycle Path was breathtaking, and most of the logistics were handled well by Rooster Bike Tours. However, one of our hotels didn’t seem prepared for our arrival, which delayed check-in after a long day of cycling. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, but it threw off our evening plans a bit. That said, the rest of the trip went smoothly, and the bikes provided were fantastic.

Everything about this trip seemed to go as smoothly as possible. Tom was very helpful and kind when setting it up and communicating through the process. The trip itself felt as though I was riding through a storybook setting. The bed-and-breakfasts were very hospitable and charming.. Woodside Inn in Lewiston was our favorite. They even took her bags up into our room. Which was so kind after a long day of riding. If you were to do this trip in September, I would suggest bringing very warm gloves as ours got wet and cold.

I wasn’t sure I could handle a self-guided Scottish Highlands bike tour, but this was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. The Glenfinnan Viaduct literally took my breath away, and the ride through Loch Linnhe felt like something out of a movie. Ciara’s encouragement and clear directions made all the difference. Highly recommend—even for less experienced cyclists!

Portugal’s Atlantic Coast offered some of the most spectacular views I’ve ever seen. Rooster Bike Tours organized everything so well that all I had to do was enjoy the ride. Injury-related cancellation! Two days before our flight to Lisbon, I tore my meniscus. It quickly became clear that a cycling tour was impossible under these circumstances, so surgery was necessary!
